The Plumbing Apprenticeship program allows eligible high school graduates and adult learners to earn while you learn in the classroom and on the job. The program is a collaborative effort of Blue Ridge Community College, Henderson County Public Schools, Transylvania County Public Schools, Homeschool Association, and T.P. Howard’s Plumbing Company, Inc. working together to support the workforce of today and tomorrow.
The Plumbing Apprenticeship Program is a registered North Carolina Apprenticeship with the N.C. Department of Labor.

Utility Positions
Lead Pipe Layer - WNC
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Pipe Layer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underground utility installation and be capable of managing, supporting, troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing equipment used in the process of laying pipe. This is a hands-on role that also requires leadership abilities to guide and support a crew in the field, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform the installation of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems, including laying pipe and fittings with precision and by project specifications and local codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project specifications to ensure proper layout and elevation of piping systems.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as heavy equipment when necessary, to dig trenches, position pipes, and complete installations.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, crew members, and customers to coordinate job activities and address any issues or changes in project scope.
- Lead and train team members on proper pipe laying techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.
- Ensure job sites are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe condition at all times.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in pipe laying or a similar construction role, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory capacity preferred.
- Proven ability to work with various types of pipe materials including PVC, ductile iron, and concrete.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Service Advisor
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Service Advisor to be the first point of contact for our customers. In this role, you will answer incoming calls, ask the right questions to fully understand customer plumbing needs, and input that information into our scheduling system. You will work closely with the rest of our dispatch team in the Service Department to ensure smooth operations. Our phones are frequently ringing, so efficiency and the ability to handle a high volume of calls are key.
This position requires excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and patience. You will need to effectively manage high call volume, interact with customers in a polite and professional manner, and assist in confirming appointments for the following day. As you grow into the role, daily responsibilities may evolve, and you will gain experience in different aspects of the position.
